Whiskey Jack in 2006 with Arlene Zock - Toronto Mike'd Episode #577 -

Erin Davis from CHFI fame was recently interviewed on a podcast called Toronto Mike'd. It was an all encompassing conversation and in a round-about way, she made mention of Whiskey Jack. Her husband Rob Whitehead played bass for us for many years. She also spoke glowingly of Arlene Zock, our brilliant vocalist who died in 2011. I'm very pleased to announce that Arlene's fans can now, for the first time, listen to her on Spotify, Apple Music and all the other streaming platforms. I'm sorry it took so long to make this happen.

The title fo this 2006 album is whiskeyjackmusic.com but retailers take issue with websites being the album name, so it has been reverted to a self-titled album. This is a star studded group of Canadian musicians and it begins with our long time producer and often bass player, John Switzer. John's mixing talent and his ability to get great performances from everyone is all over this CD. Then there's my long time guitarist/vocalist and very loveable, Bob McNiven (check out his sizzling guitar solo on My Window Faces The South); Greg Street (5 time winner of Canadian Bluegrass Bass Player of the year) is a bass player's bass player; harmonica wizard Howard Willett (his solos give me goose bumps); the late and amazing Steve Klodt on accordion; Steve Briggs (yes, that Steve Briggs) on mandolin (check out his solo on In A Prayer); the fantastic Michelle Josef on drums; Randy Morrison, 5 time Canadian National Bluegrass Fiddler and yours truly on banjo.

There have been a lot of exceptional versions of Whiskey Jack over the last 43 years, including the present incarnation, but the 2006 group of musical friends was special. Being able to add my voice to the McNiven/Zock duo was a high I'll never experience again. https://music.apple.com/ca/album/whiskey-jack/1492185718

Whiskey Jack Presents Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom

Whiskey Jack Presents Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom

Sunday, April 7, 2024 @ 2:00PMSun, Apr 7, 2024 @ 2:00PM

Fergus Grand Theatre, 244 St. Andrew St. W., Fergus, On

Whiskey Jack Presents Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom returns to the Fergus Grand Theatre on April 7, 2023 to begin their "10th anniversary tour". Fans had to be turned away at the door the night of their first appearance, almost 6 years ago to the day! This show, recently described as a cross between Red Green and Vinyl Cafe, is so Canadian it hurts. The band's musical ride with Tom began in 1990 and included national tours, albums, TV appearances and many all night sessions filled with chess, songs and beer. You'll hear all about it at this show.

Brockville Arts Centre, Brockville, On

For 4 decades, Whiskey Jack has been performing their unique brand of Canadian country music coast to coast. In the 1980's, they were featured weekly on CBC TV's Tommy Hunter Show. Watching the Whiskey Jack segment (The Ol' Back Porch) every Friday night, a retired Stompin' Tom Connors would become an avid Whiskey Jack fan, enjoying the humour and the amazing musicianship, along with 2 million of his fellow Canadians. When Stompin' Tom resumed his career after 13 years away, he called Whiskey Jack and invited them to join him in the studio to record his acclaimed album, "Dr. Stompin' Tom... Eh?". These two Canadian musical institutions would continue to perform and record often together until Tom's death in 2014. Those years with Stompin' Tom were the seeds that blossomed into the show they tour with today, Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom.
