There is a national campaign by a group of bird lovers, ornithologists and patriotic Canadians who want The Whiskey Jack (aka, Canada Jay) declared Canada's national bird. We wrote this and have offered it to everyone for free to support this important cause. The Whiskey Jack and Stompin' Tom have much in common. Listen to this song and you'll learn why.
Lyrics
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird, I wonder what he'd be.
I doubt he'd be a Robin or a pretty Chickadee.
His plumage would be mostly grey with a little touch of black,
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird, he'd be a Whiskey Jack
Whiskey Jack, the Canada Jay, sassy, smart and bold
Whiskey Jack, the trickster, mischievous we’re told
Whiskey Jack, he's not a Snowbird, flying south ‘n back
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird he'd be a Whiskey Jack.
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird, he'd "stand on guard for thee"
And when he chirps the alphabet, its x, y zed, not zee
He'd swoop down to a logger's camp and grab a little snack,
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird, he'd be a Whiskey Jack.
Stompin' Tom and Whiskey Jack, they’re known from coast to coast,
They’ve been to every camp and town from south to northernmost,
One’s called a National Treasure, one’s called Wasakajac
If Stompin' Tom was our national bird, he'd be a Whiskey Jack
