Over the years, Whiskey Jack has performed in hundreds of Legions across Canada. My first memory was the Legion on Great Northern Road in 1966 when I’d attend the weekly teen dance. My memory is that it was capacity each night and the dance floor was always full.
In June of 2023, I saw an ad on Facebook suggesting I join as an “affiliate”, not as someone with a military or police background. No one in my immediate family were soldiers, except perhaps in the 1800’s. So, for a one time fee of $30, I was officially a member of “Legion Branch 10” on Pape Avenue in Toronto.
I’ve been to the clubhouse a number of times, for general meetings, billiards and beer. To help fund an expensive piece of equipment that was urgently needed at the hall, I performed my Stompin’ Tom show. This was presented in the second floor concert hall, a fantastic facility with stage, dance floor…the whole sheebang.
Recently, the four members of Whiskey Jack drove to Northern Ontario and performed in two Legions, one in Richards Landing (St. Joseph Island) and one in Haileybury (Temiskaming Shores). Both shows were fantastic. We were treated like royalty. And yes, it's true….we have been Everywhere.
