Do you ever wonder why these city dudes love Stompin' Tom shows so much?

Throughout the year, Douglas and I perform a variety of shows.  In the summer, as a duo, we drive many miles on our 2 lane highways in the north singing songs for campers at Provincial Parks.  In the spring and fall we take our Stompin' Tom show on the road.  These shows include the band featuring our great fiddler/guitarist, Billy MacInnis.   There's no hibernation for us in the winter.  We then return to our duo set-list and explore the clubs in Toronto.

The most common question we get is “what does your Stompin' Tom show look like?”

The following description is based on comments we received from a sound engineer this past spring. This fellow had just spent 2 hours doing sound, lights and media for us.  As we were striking the stage, with a big smile on his face, he walked over to tell us what he thought of our performance.  I'm paraphrasing but this is what he saw:

“In the first song, in the middle of the second verse of Bud The Spud, your playful exchange with the audience set the tone.  They became your friends. We rarely see this kind of interplay on our stage. You started having a conversation with them and it lasted the evening.   What followed was what they came for..some nostalgia, patriotism, incredible singing and playing… and so much humour.   And the was no lull in either show. Your program was so varied, so unpredictable. The crowd was engaged…right from the get-go.”

On the drive home that night, we were feeling pretty good about ourselves.
