Whiskey Jack's campaign to ensure that Stompin' Tom will play a major role in the Canada 150 celebrations received a significant boost today. We recently woke up to some amazing media coverage about our Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom Canada 150 summer tour.
In the Sault Star, reporter Brian Kelly published a terrific article about our much anticipated July 1 visit to the Soo. Brian has written about us before and "nails it" every time!
In last week's Toronto Sun, there is another very excellent article written by longtime newspaper man, Jim Baine. Jim writes as an authority on Stompin' Tom and our show. In the 1980's, he wrote a play about Tom and his songs. More recently, he attended our Stories & Songs show Timmins in October, 2016 (and has seen more shows since).
Last week, Dave Flaherty from Post Media came through with another well written article about our April 9, 2017 show in Hanover Ontario (another great Stompin' Tom town if ever there was one).
It's been a great week for Stompin' Tom on another front. His son, Tom Jr. announced that Stompin' Tom Ltd. has signed a new record deal with Ole, an independent music publishing and rights management company. Included in this deal will be the production and release of a compilation CD featuring Canadian performers singing a Stompin' Tom song. Whiskey Jack is very pleased to announce that "we will be included in this project".
Recently, Whiskey Jack spent a day at Marquee Sound in Toronto recording our new song, "If Stompin' Tom Was Our National Bird". It will soon be available for downloading. Watch for it on our web site over the next week or so. We wrote the song in support of a national campaign to declare the Whiskey Jack (aka, Canada Jay) our national bird. We're now part of a dedicated group of about 35 volunteers (bird lovers, ornithologists, politicians) from across the country who are lobbying the Federal Government to make this official. You'll be hearing more about "Team Gray Jay" in the weeks to come.
