I notice two of my favourite singers and song writers are coming to Massey Hall soon. Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowell are touring together and odds are, it should be a good show.
I've seen each of them perform on their own and I've been less than impressed. The songs are good. The singing is great but I left each show feeling let down. I never found them to be even slightly entertaining. I won't be buying tickets to their Massey Hall show. I'll stay home and listen to their CD's.
Lyle Lovett is an example of what and entertainer should be... personable, he's witty, he's charming and comfortable with his audience and his band. Top that off with fantastic songs and a voice that emotes on every note and Lovett ends up with one of the best shows on the circuit.
Whiskey Jack isn't famous. Nor do we draw crowds to fill a Massey Hall. But what we do each night we perform our Stories & Songs of Stompin' Tom is entertain. At least that's what the fans and CD buyers are telling us.
After the Stockey Centre show in Parry Sound last month, we spoke with a couple visiting for the summer from Germany. They bought a package...tickets to 10 shows over the summer. Our show was the last on their list. According to Wolfgang, "that was the best show all summer. We had more fun than we can imagine".
That's what I want to be able to say to Rodney and Emmy Lou after one of their shows but it will never happen. The best part is, our show cost $19.95. Crowell/Harris tickets are $60.00 and up.
