My friend and editor of my book Jim Baine is spending the winter in Trinidad. He watched the Zoomer show on his computer and immediately emailed to offer his congratulations on a great show. He also noted that Tom would have liked this party. How right he is.
Over the years, Tom invited me often to perform at his private functions, many of them birthday parties. Each party was special. He was a gracious host. Tom always joined us on his stage to sing a few songs. There was lots of laughter and good cheer. These ingredients were in great abundance last Thursday at my 6th Annual Stompin' Tom Birthday Celebration. The vibe in the room and back stage was very special. Lots of hugging and back slapping and smiling faces.
Much of the love in the room came from our guests: Murray Foster, The Good Brothers, Gordon Lightfoot and Russell deCarle. There's a lot of history behind this lineup. Most of us have known and respected each other for decades so whenever we all get together, it's very warm and friendly.
The professionals at Zoomer Radio were amazing. The production of the show was first class. Also, thanks to the sold out crowd for their exuberant response! I still get goose bumps thinking about it.
